CircularFarming.IN.NRW: Project Partners Drive Forward the Development of Innovative Planning Tools

Progress in modelling, initial data from demonstrators and the next steps in developing digital planning tools were the focus of the project meeting held on 9 October 2026 at TH Köln (Cologne University of Applied Sciences).

As part of the CircularFarming.IN.NRW research project, SUNfarming, TH Köln and Nourtec GmbH are working together to develop model-based planning, simulation and training tools for innovative agricultural land-use concepts.

At their latest project meeting, the partners reported positive interim results: The models for cultivating at least two plant species are at an advanced stage of development. SUNfarming has already collected initial data from the demonstrators and developed a basic yield model. The next steps will focus on further refining the models and investigating economically promising crop combinations.
Meanwhile, TH Köln is continuing to develop and commission its demonstrators, while Nourtec will begin developing a smart IoT platform.

Outlook: Over the coming months, the focus will be on further data collection, model optimisation and integration into the digital toolbox. The joint workshop series will also continue, with the next workshop scheduled for early April 2027 in Heinsberg.

Through this project, the partners are making an important contribution to the practical advancement of innovative and resource-efficient agriculture.
